The lecturer of the event is Dr. Med. Angela Keim who has written her PhD thesis on „Attachment representations and psychopathology of former street and institutionalized children in Bucharest, Romania“. She has been working in adult, child and youth psychiatry and currently is working in Bucharest in psychiatric case management for Concordia Romania.

Introduction:

The workshop “Basics of Attachment: theory and therapy” will introduce you to the attachment theory by John Bowlby, the 4 different attachment representations and the individual needs the 4 types have, to deal in a healing way with children with unhealthy attachment behaviour.

The event is suitable for professionals working with children and youngsters, i.e. educators, social workers, psychotherapists, doctors. In the course of the workshop the participants will have the opportunity to exchange experiences, best practices, and ideas and to gain new knowledge and skills in the field.

About the topic:

The development of a secure attachment between parents and children is the ideal foundation for the healthy physical, psychological, and social development of the child. Children who develop a secure emotional attachment show, among other things, more pro-social and less aggressive behavior, have a greater capacity for empathy, are more creative and persistent in pursuing their ends, and exhibit better cognitive capacities and greater creativity in dealing with difficult situations than do children with an insecure attachment. It is essential that professionals, particularly those working in the field of child and family welfare, have a sound knowledge and understanding of the concepts of attachment and bonding as they underpin the socio-emotional wellbeing of our most vulnerable clients. This workshop is an introduction to attachment theory by John Bowlby, the 4 different attachment representations and the individual needs the 4 types have, to deal in a healing way with children with unhealthy attachment behaviour.
