International interactive event „Active Youth Against Hate Speech”

10-11  November, Lithuania

Human Rights Monitoring Institute in cooperation with partners across Europe is inviting active young people, aged 16-30, to participate in an interactive international event. A workshop “Active Youth against Hate Speech” will be held on 10-11 November, 2021 via an online platform.

Hate speech poses a growing threat to our democracies and European solidarity. It violates human rights and corrodes the culture of debate. Hate speech is often used as a tool to target vulnerable groups, especially minorities. It causes alienation and exclusion of certain groups and individuals. And, therefore, weakens democracy and strengthens positions of radicals and populists.

We invite young people to have a say about it and together find ways how to tackle the phenomena. The workshop will train and inform participants about hate speech, preparing them to play an active role in addressing this challenging problem at national and European levels. The workshop will be interactive and participants will have a possibility to develop skills and attitudes to counter hate speech.

The event is facilitated by Indre Marsantaite ir Goda Jureviciute.
